In South Cotabato, combined elements of CIDG, local PNP units, and Philippine Army served several Warrants of Arrest (WOAs) against two (2) alleged Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) personalities in the afternoon of August 16, 2021 (Monday).

Elements from the CIDG Davao City Field Unit, CIDG RFU11, CIDG South Cotabato PFU, Polomolok MPS, Culombio MPS, RID-PRO12, RIU 12, MAPIO, 5th SF BN, 14 AIB and 11th ISU, both from Philippine Army, arrested PAMELA ANOYA GUIDES-PEÑARANDA a.k.a. “Manang Yani” or “Melai” at around 12:45 PM in Dalia St. Brgy Poblacion, Polomolok, South Cotabato.

52-year-old GUIDES-PEÑARANDA is wanted for Murder docketed under CC No. 25302 issued by Hon. Sharon Rose T. Saracin, Presiding Judge of RTC 11th Judicial Region Branch 30, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Authorities were able to recover from her possession and control were one (1) fragmentation grenade, a pack of electronic wirings wrapped in a plastic bubble wrap, two (2) ID cards (Philhealth and BIR).

Meanwhile, at around 1:05 PM, detectives of the CIDG RFU 11 together with CIDG South Cotabato PFU, Polomolok MPS, RID-PRO12, RIU 12, MAPIO, 5th SF BN, 14 AIB and 11th ISU, both from Philippine Army served three (3) WOAs against ERNIE TABAÑAG PEÑARANDA a.k.a. “John Nebris Omega” alias “Parts,” “Bords,” “Abay,” or “Pards” in his residence at B4 Londres Village, Cannery Site, Polomolok, South Cotabato.

53-year-old PEÑARANDA saw the arrival of the said team immediately ran inside the house and grabbed his firearms then fire towards the approaching team, prompting the latter to defend themselves resulting in an armed encounter. The suspect sustained injury and was rushed to the hospital for medication, however, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The suspect is wanted for the following criminal offenses:

- KIDNAPPING AND SERIOUS ILLEGAL DETENTION (Art. 267 of RPC) under CC No. 5332-C (17) with NO BAIL, issued by Hon. Milanio M. Guerrero, Judge of RTC 12th Judicial Region Branch 20, Tacurong City;
- ROBBERY BY A BAND under CC No. R-DVO-17-01019-CR, with a Php100,000.00 bail recommended issued by Hon. Jill Rose S. Jaugan-Lo, Judge of RTC 11th Judicial Region Branch 14, Davao City; and
- ROBBERY IN BAND under CC No. R-DVO-17-01020-CR, with NO BAIL, also issued by Hon. Jill Rose S. Jaugan-Lo, Judge of RTC 11th Judicial Region Branch 14, Davao City, dated April 22, 2019.

A caliber .45 pistol, a magazine loaded with three (3) rounds of ammunition, three (3) caliber .45 fired cartridges, and four (4) caliber .9mm fired cartridges were recovered at the crime scene.

Accordingly, both Guides-Peñaranda and Peñaranda are said to be members of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) wherein Guides-Peñaranda acts as the Secretary of DCUC and Finance RCTC, while Peñaranda acts as a member of RPMA, ROC and also acts as the Intelligence of Komisyon Mindanao (KOMMID).

“Ikinalulungkot po natin ang pagkasawi ni Peñaranda. Hindi po natin nais na may mangyaring ganitong mga insidente habang tayo ay nagsasgawa ng ating operasyon kung saan ang ating suspect pati na ang ating mga kapulisan ay malagay sa peligro,“ said CIDG Director, PMGEN ALBERT IGNATIUS D FERRO.

A case for violation of RA 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives) is filed against the lady suspect through inquest proceedings.

“We will sustain our efforts against individuals or groups involved in atrocities and deviant ideologies. We will do what is needed to be done to ensure that peace and security in our homes, communities and the country as a whole will be achieved,” added PMGEN FERRO.
