The former Chief of Police of Tetuan Police Station in Zamboanga City was arrested on August 28, 2021, at 9:00 AM at his residence in Blue Homes Subd. Barangay Mercedes.

PLTCOL NONITO ASDAI y PANGILISON, 55 years old was arrested by joint elements of CIDG Zamboanga CFU, CIDG Basilan PFU 9, PNP IMEG MFU, PDEG9 , ZCPO S2, and RHPU 9 by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest (WOA) for violation of Sec. 92 of RA 9165 (Delay and Bungling in the Prosecution of Drug Cases) under CC# 48799 issued by Hon. Shene Chiong Cañete, Judge of Branch 35, RTC, Ninth Judicial Region, Zamboanga City.

Accordingly, ASDAI and seven (7) of his men allegedly bungled nine (9) drug cases his station handled since 2017. Based on the Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), said 9 cases were dismissed by RTC9. After learning about the incident, PNP PRO9 immediately conducted its investigation and filed both Administrative and Criminal Cases against ASDAI and his personnel.

Some cases were dismissed against some of the police respondents after being able to file and submit their countervailing evidence, proffer their defenses, and claim innocence on the case.

Meanwhile, ASDAI was administratively charged by PRO9 for numerous counts of Simple Neglect of Duty and served his administrative suspension from September 2020 until September this year.

The criminal charges for violation of Section 92 of RA 9165 were filed against him in nine (9) different courts in RTC 9, wherein the WOA served against him by the said manhunt team was issued and released by RTC BR 35 on August 27, 2021. Pending the motion to consolidate all cases filed by the police respondents, other WOAs are yet to be released.

“Ang pagkaka-aresto kay ASDAI ay isang patunay ng puspusang paglilinis ng PNP sa hanay nito at hindi nito hinahayaang tuluyang madungisan ng mga tiwaling pulis ang imahe at pangalan ng PNP.” said PMGEN ALBERT IGNATIUS D FERRO, CIDG Director.

“Let this be a reminder to our fellow PNP personnel, hindi biro ang pinagdaanan natin upang mabilang sa hanay ng kapulisan. We were able to get hold of our badges and wear our uniforms because we earned it through hardship and sacrifice, tapos mababalewala lang lahat dahil sa ganitong tiwaling gawain,” added PMGEN FERRO.
