After 31 years of hiding, 56-year-old LITO CANSINO DUQUE was arrested by CIDG Pangasinan PFU and local police units in the morning of April 25, 2022 in Brgy San Jose, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao.
Duque was hiding for more than three (3) decades after Hon. Nicodimo T. Ferrer, the Presiding Judge of Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region Br. 38, Lingayen, Pangasinan issued his Warrant of Arrest for the crime of Murder on January 9, 1991.
Upon interview of the suspect, he claimed that the crime was an act of self-defense and his co-accused, his brother, died in that incident. Because of fear, he went into hiding and never had the chance to defend himself in court.
Duque is said to be the leader of the “Duque Gun-for-Hire and Gunrunning Group” and tagged as the No. 6 Provincial Level Most Wanted Person in Pangasinan and is now under the custody of CIDG Pangasinan in Alaminos City for proper disposition.
The law may be hard to observe and obey but it is the law and must be followed and enforced just the same (Dura lex sed lex - “The law is harsh, but it is the law”). Regardless of the reasons behind the commission of the crime or for evading arrest, the CIDG will remain steadfast in imposing the laws and have offenders liable for the crimes they committed.
The assistance of other law enforcement units and the help of concerned citizens was a big advantage in the successful arrest of the accused. The trust and confidence given to CIDG by the public helps empower the group to solve cases long forgotten.
