A 32-year-old man was arrested while 71,000 worth of fake peso bills were confiscated by joint personnel of CIDG Mandaue City Field Unit, RIU7 and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Representatives in an entrapment operation on June 2, 2022 at about 5:00 PM in Brgy San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.

The suspect was identified as JUNIE DAGANDAN BACUS who was caught while in the act of selling fake money to a police undercover. Bacus was found to be in possession and control of the following seized items:

- One (1) genuine Php1,000.00 bill which served as buy-bust money;
- Two (2) Php1,000.00 fake bills both with same serial number RA593777;
- Nine (9) Php1,000.00 fake bills all with same serial number RA733798;
- Twenty-six (26) Php1,000.00 fake bills all with same serial number LV063698;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number AA893767;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number AA993768;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number QS223883;
- Four (4) Php1,000.00 fake bills all with same serial number LV063696;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number SG107228;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number WE939998;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number ML293768;
- One (1) Php1,000.00 fake bill with serial number ML293779;
- Three (3) Php1,000.00 fake bill all with same serial number LR153923;
- One (1) Php500.00 fake bill with serial number CA193785;
- One (1) Php500.00 fake bill with serial number LVO63696;
- Three (3) Php500.00 fake bills all with same serial number CV193786;
- Two (2) Php500.00 fake bills both with same serial number CA183786;
- Three (3) Php500.00 fake bills all with same serial number LV093682;
- One (1) Php500.00 fake bill with serial number CR731507; and
- Twenty-nine (29) Php500.00 fake bills all with same serial number K842762.

Bacus is now facing charges for violation of Article 168 (Illegal possession and use of false treasury or banknotes and other instruments of credit) in relation to Article 166 of the Revised Penal Code.

Last year, 2021, the CIDG Cebu operatives and BSP agents have conducted separate police operations against two men for keeping a total of Php100,000 worth counterfeit bills allegedly being readied for use during the election season.

This Unit is investigating on the circulation and use of said counterfeit money for other illegal means.

The CIDG ensures that perpetrators of such illegal act will pay for their crime behind bars and reminded the public to be wary and familiarized themselves on how to differentiate the genuine money from fake ones.
